Our Process

How It Works

On your pet’s initial visit, we will perform a thorough assessment, and combine this with any information provided in the veterinary referral, to determine which body parts are affected and the impact this has on the overall pet’s mobility and function. We will then discuss our findings with you, and with your input, devise goals of treatment and a rehabilitation plan that suits your individual pet’s needs. From here we can select a variety of treatments to use to get your pet on the road to recovery.

Veterinary Referral

All rehabilitation patients require a veterinary referral prior to their first appointment. This is important to make sure your dog has a correct diagnosis, all relevant tests and investigations have been performed and any medical or surgical treatment that is required has been done. We will communicate regularly with your pet’s vet to ensure your dog is on the right road to recovery.

Why Rehabilitation?

You may have gone to physical therapy yourself, or at least you understand the importance of it in many situations.

Rehabilitation is now widely accepted as an important component in the treatment of many conditions in the canine world. Canine In Motion offer’s your dog the opportunity to benefit from rehabilitation and fitness programs, right here in the Flathead Valley of Montana.

Just the Facts:

  • After knee surgery, without TPLO rehab, dogs may lose 1/3 of their muscle mass in the rear limb following surgery and may take over 1 year to regain it.
  • With TPLO rehab, thigh circumferences are equal at 6 weeks post-surgery.
  • For TPLO surgeries, studies confirm that rehab should be instituted immediately and continue for at least 5-6 weeks after surgery.
  • An overweight dog can reduce it’s life expectancy by 2 years.
  • Dogs with degenerative myelopathy that receive rehab live 1.6 years longer than those that don’t.
